Precautionary Methods during Orange and Red Alert of Monsoon Season.

Monsoon has arrived in some parts of India, and specially Mumbai. Most of the time, our city is facing the challenges of heavy rainfall. Lots of people might not be knowing the difference between Orange and Red Alert imposed by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Therefore, I am going to tell you the difference and what safety measures should be taken during these two types of alerts when issued by IMD.

During an Orange Alert, you should be prepared for severe weather conditions. During a Red Alert, you should take action to protect yourself from the weather. Some general safety tips for the rainy season include avoiding walking or driving through floodwaters, staying away from electric wires, unplugging electronic appliances, closing windows and doors properly, keeping an umbrella and raincoat handy, and preparing an emergency kit. Here are some detailed safety tips for the rainy season:

- **Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters**: Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and can hide hazards such as sharp objects, washed-out road surfaces, and strong currents. It's best to avoid walking or driving through them.

- **Stay away from electric wires**: During heavy rain, electric wires may break and fall. Always stay away from them as they may still be live and touching them could be fatal. Educate children about the importance of staying away from fallen electric wires and poles.

- **Unplug electronic appliances**: To prevent damage to your electronic appliances from power surges caused by lightning, it's a good idea to unplug them during heavy rain.

- **Close windows and doors properly**: Make sure all windows and doors are properly closed to prevent rainwater from entering your home.

- **Keep an umbrella and raincoat handy**: Always carry an umbrella or raincoat with you to protect yourself from getting wet in the rain.

- **Prepare an emergency kit**: It's a good idea to have an emergency kit ready in case of severe weather conditions. The kit should include items such as a flashlight, batteries, first aid supplies, non-perishable food, water, and important documents.
