The US Supreme Court ruled that race-based admissions at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina were unconstitutional. The ruling was decided 6-3 by the court's conservative majority, with Chief Justice John Roberts stating that race-conscious admission programs involve racial stereotyping. In dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote that the decision would further entrench racial inequality in education. The ruling could alter admissions processes across the US and prompt employers to rethink how they consider race in hiring. President Biden criticized the decision and directed the Education Department to analyze practices to build a more inclusive and diverse student body.
