Authorities in northeastern Ontario have reported that an individual, who stands accused of three homicides in the Sudbury area over the past few months, has successfully escaped from the regional correctional facility.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service has provided limited details regarding the time when 33-year-old Joel Roy is suspected to have escaped from the facility. However, they have released a statement about his escape on Saturday evening. According to the police, Roy was under custody in connection with three recent homicides, all of which are pending trial.

Past police news releases show Roy was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in December 2022 after an alleged shooting at a local hotel.

Police laid an additional, unrelated murder charge against him in April after the body of a man reported missing months earlier surfaced in a wooded area near the city.
Police say Roy, who they warn the public not to approach, is five feet six inches tall and 150 pounds with a medium build. They say he has shoulder-length, light brown hair that may be tied in a ponytail, green eyes, a scar on his right cheek and tattoos on his chest and right forearm. Rewrite 

In December 2022, Roy was charged with two counts of first-degree murder following an alleged shooting at a nearby hotel, as indicated in previous police news releases. Subsequently, in April, an additional murder charge unrelated to the previous incident was brought against him. The charge was related to the discovery of a man's body in a wooded area near the city, who had been reported missing several months prior.

Authorities caution the public not to approach Roy, describing him as approximately five feet six inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds, with a medium build. He is recognized by his shoulder-length, light brown hair that may be tied in a ponytail, as well as his distinctive green eyes. Furthermore, Roy bears a scar on his right cheek and has tattoos on his chest and right forearm.
